The Condensed Matter Physics (CMP) group offers a stimulating environment for graduate studies in condensed matter physics. Experimental research within the group is a diverse range of themes that includes nanostructures, organic electronics, superconductivity, nanomechanics, magnetism, nano-bio systems, and molecular solids. Combined theoretical and experimental projects exist in radiation damage in solids, organic spintronics, and vortices while the complete theories of liquids and the glass transition are being pursued.
The group is located in the Physics Department on the Queen Mary Mile End Campus. Experiments are performed using state-of-the-art in-house facilities for the synthesis and analysis of condensed matter systems and also on both national and international facilities (muon, neutron, and X-ray). The theoretical component of CMP is closely associated with the Thomas Young Centre, the London Centre for the Theory and Simulation of Materials.
